Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct form of medicine, blending Western science with traditional medicine. Naturopathic medicine seeks to treat the underlying cause of disease and support the body's own natural healing ability using in-depth consultation, observation, counselling, lab testing (blood, urine, stool), nutrition, lifestyle considerations, botanical medicine, supplements and orthomolecular medicine, in addition to IV medicine.
The guiding principles of naturopathic medicine are:
First Do No Harm - Choosing treatment avenues which minimize harmful side effects and suppression of symptoms while supporting the body's ability to heal
The Healing Power of Nature - Supporting the body's ability to heal and removing obstacles to optimal health.
Identify and Treat the Cause - Treating the underlying cause of dysfunction in the body is a primary goal of naturopathic medicine.
Doctor as Teacher - The Latin word for doctor, "Docere," means "to teach." A Naturopathic Doctor aims to elucidate factors affecting individual health.
Treat the Whole Person - Naturopathic medicine takes into consideration the whole picture of an individual's health: mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, social, environmental, and genetic.
Prevention - Staying well and preventing illness is an ongoing goal in naturopathic medicine.
